The Dungeon Chapel is a historic black church that once stood on Israel Dungeon’s 8-acre property in the Spader’s Church neighborhood. In 1879, Dungeon deeded a lot for a place of worship and cemetery, and a small church was built. This congregation was formerly part of the United Brethren in Christ in Harrisonburg. There are 24 memorials listed on the Find a Grave website. The earliest burial is Hattie M Washington and the most recent is Richard Jackson buried in 1940. There are many unmarked graves, and more research is necessary to learn about the Chapel and who else may be buried there.
