Our tour starts at the empty lot on Carillon Drive where the Ulysses Simpson Grant Fry Restaurant used to be. In 1904, General Fry went into the restaurant business on the West side of town in Luray, on the road that led to the Luray Caverns. On the advice of a white business man he named the restaurant, General Ulysses Simpson Grant Fry Restaurant, which was his given name at birth. The restaurant business brought him prosperity. In addition to the restaurant business, he did farming and janitorial work. Additional story about this restaurant can be found at TooLongForgotten.
