The Zenda Countryside tour features historical sites of the area that was home to a community African American freeborn families in the early 1800s that grew when previously enslaved families joined in the 1870s. Over the time, the community declined and an only a few descendants of the previous residents remain. Almost all the physical structures are gone but the landscape remains largely unchanged. Taking this 20 minute drive illuminates the distances between families, their work, and their church. Enjoy the beautiful countryside and try to imagine a time, when the roads were dirt and walking to church and work was a way of life.
