Henry and Savilla Vickers owned their home at 138 East Wolfe Street. The 1930s federal census records show that they lived there with two young professional women who were renting rooms. The pictures we have of the Vickers home are from the R4 Urban Renewal Project, when the front and back of each structure was photographed. As you can see from the pictures above, the Vickers home was a beautiful building and in great shape, yet demolished anyway during the project in the 1960s. Savilla Vickers was a well-known caterer in the city, and she worked alongside other chefs such as Mrs. Edna Tolliver Rhodes (her cousin), and her neighbor Mrs. Eleanor Beatrice Lewis Walker. The former home was located approximately where the Gamer Oasis building now sites.
